Pest Control and Exterminators
Keep creepy crawlies out of your home
Every region of the US has its own pest problems. In the desert Southwest, they have several varieties of cockroach that are particularly unappealing. In the Pacific Northwest, the most destructive pest isn't a bug or critter...it's fungi. Of course,
there are termites and carpenter ants that afflict many parts of the country with their destructive appetites. Rodents are another pest that can be a nuisance and sometimes a hazard to homeowners.
The best method of dealing with pests of any sort is prevention. Keep pests out of your home by eradicating the highways in.
- Keep a clear perimeter around your home. No trees, bushes, shrubs, woodpiles, or any other debris should touch your house. Trim overhanging branches.
- Seal your home. Insects and critters seek shelter and can get through even tiny crevices to take up habitation in attics and crawl spaces.
- Repair or seal leaks as soon as you notice them. Everything from mold to cockroaches seem to gravitate to moist, dark spots. Under the kitchen sink seems to be particularly popular for a variety of other terrestrial life forms.
- Clean. Put food away and clean up immediately. Toss garbage daily.
Even the cleanest neat freak occasionally has to resort to calling an exterminator. If you need to find a professional, make sure you find someone who is licensed, insured, and experienced. Extermination businesses handle a variety of toxic materials
and are stringently regulated by each state. Make sure the service you hire provides you with copies of insurance and licensing as well as answering all your concerns about pesticides and their residual effects. This is particularly important if members of your family
have chemical sensitivities. Your pest control contractor will welcome your questions.
