Sump Pump Installation
Dry out the basement once and for all
Do you need a sump pump system installed? If you have problems, especially
during the rainy season with water penetrating your basement walls and pooling,
you do.
A sump pump comprises a buried drainage system along the foundation wall which
collects and directs the water into a sump tank. The sump tank is usually installed
at the lowest point of the basement. A float inside the tank detects when it
is filled to the triggering level. At this point, an electric pump engages and pumps
the water through a discharge pipe out of the basement and into the sewer system
or other code-regulated location.
Hire a qualified plumber or contractor to install a sump pump. This is specialized
work, so when considering the company to hire, make sure your candidate meets
the following minimum requirements.
- Request copies of all relevant licensing and insurance as required by your
state.
- Ask for references. Your contractor should be able to provide recent and
not so recent references from clients. Check those references. You want to
know not only how well done the work was done, but that it performed well
over time.
- Check the agreement for warranty conditions and terms. Make sure you understand
who is responsible for dealing with the manufacturer in the event of equipment
failure as well as how long the contractor guarantees the system.
- Ask for information concerning any regular maintenance and repair to keep
your system working well into the future.
The plumber or sump pump contractor you select should be someone you trust
to install the system, but also someone you will want to do business with for
future maintenance or repairs.
